Llandudno, Wales 11th – 13th September 2008. Avery Dennison Corporation’s Printer System Division, a leading provider for Auto-Id Solutions from Thermo-Transfer Printing, RFID and Labelling, has put the spotlight on the recent National Patient Safety Agency’s (“NPSA”), Safer Practice Notice (No. 24) at the British Blood Transfusion Society (“BBTS”) meeting with its TERVIA wristband and blood tracking solution.
In the Safer Practice Notice (No. 24) the NPSA recommend that all NHS organisations using wristbands should apply a standard design by 18th July 2008. The notice highlights that: “Standardising the design of patient wristbands, the information on them, and the processes used to produce and check them, will improve patient safety”.
Avery Dennison’s TERVIA wristband and blood tracking system, which was installed in March 2008 at the Dorset County Hospital, ensures that these national guidelines are met and patient safety is enhanced. The wristband and TERVIA blood tracking solution has also been rolled out at the following hospitals; Blandford Hospital, West Haven Hospital, Weymouth Hospital and Portland Hospital, amongst many others.
Tracey Stevenson, Hospital Transfusion Practitioner, Dorset County Hospital commented: “Introducing the Avery Dennison wristbands and TERVIA blood tracking solution has improved our method of identifying patients within the organisation, and allowed us to meet the national directives for patient safety. The system is user friendly making it very easy to introduce”.
